I've also removed a load of widgets lately, including weather, calendar and mail - just to see if these kill power.
So I'm now left with the clock on the main home screen, favourite contacts on another, and bookmarks on another, plus loads of app shortcuts. Sync to Exchange is "when items arrive", sync to gmail is on as normal. Sync with Facebook is 24hrs, FLickr if off, and Twitter is off. Am also no longer running Twidroid.
