I actually am curious about that, as far as I know.. neither the manufacturer nor the carrier makes any sort of money off the software that we remove. Nor do they make any money off future updates that we may not need with custom roms.
So, I actually don't understand why they do lock the device? The ever wise HTC says "Don't pirate the carriers software and its all good..." So, what exactly IS motorola protecting? To me right now it just seems apple-esque.

actually they do make money off the software you remove...... they have contracts with these companies that pay them to install this bloatware.... it wouldnt do a company much good to pay them to install it if they simply let you uninstall it would it? do you really believe a carrier gives a rats arse if you have AmazonMP3 or not? its not a selling point for them whatsoever
then you factor in the warranty concerns....... I dont know how many times Ive read on this forum let alone other forums not to worry about voiding your warranty........ if you break the phone and cant flash back to stock then they have no way of telling you were rooted to begin with...... so in our quest to say we dont care about the warranty issues as long as we have root....... we try to circumvent the warranty if something goes wrong....... maybe things like this are the very reason
dont get me wrong.... Ive always believed I purchased the phone...... its my property....... they have no right to tell me what changes I make to my own property...... and yes I am rooted and running a rom and other mods as well....... but I do know I signed a contract and I know what the contract said as well as their reasoning and logic behind it
