Do you have any home screen apps installed? I had some conflicts with widgets that made my droid go crazy. Turn off the phone and hold down the gold center key on the dpad as it boots up. When you feel a long buzz you can let go and it will boot into safe mode. See if that works and turn off all home screen apps and widgets then reboot.
