Here are the questions...

1. I'll be getting a new SD card before the rooting begins. How important is the whole Class 2/4/6 thing. Is Class 4 good enough? class 4 should be fine. i bought a 8gb class 6 for $20, so i thought that was a good deal.

If I simply swap out the SD card with a new one before the root, what would I lose besides the photos, movies, music that I have manually transferred to the existing SD card? there are some folders on there, just copy the folders over to your pc, then stick the new card in and put the folders on there. this can be done within the phone when it's plugged into your pc (pick the hard disk option instead of charge only) or with a card reader on your pc.

3. How do I go about backing up the phone for restoration if the rooting thing doesn't work out? there are paid programs on the market for that (i think), but i didnt do that. once i rooted, i used the nandroid program withing recovery to backup everything before i made any changes. but there is a way to get it back to stock, but i havent looked into it yet.

4. What apps/functionality will I find in the phone after the rooting? all the apps will be the same, you will just be able to install apps from the market that require root, or third party apps outside of the market (i.e swype or games).

5. Is there a list of apps/files that should not be deleted after the rooting? i havent found a complete list yet, but i found bits and pieces by searching around. its really up to you. most of the .apk names that pop up when you do a search within cmd with adb commands are easily recognizable, so you dont delete something you shouldnt. also make sure to do a nandroid backup before deleting just in case somehting gets screwed up. fyi - it's not just as easy as going into the apps manager and deleting, there is adb codes that need entered via command prompt.

6. What is all this "flasing ROM" talk about? How do I chose what I should be flashing? What are the differences and does my device model matter in this decision?
i haven't done this and am not sure i am going to. i think i will just wait for the official 2.2 update from at&t. but yes the type of phone you have matters. just stick to the aria forums and the ROMs for the aria are posted by many people. i've only heard of 2 or 3 main ones for aria, attn1, cm6 are what i can think of
