Since you were able to flash the phone to 2.1, I suggest you do a basic root like I did. I was scared at first to do this thinking I would mess up my phone, but it has become an amazing phone since. Like I said, I got 28 hours on one charge with heavy use. I'm averaging about 24 for the last few days since I am messing around a lot more with it since rooted.
Give it a shot. My 1.5 to 2.1 phone sucked, but I never rooted it. My second and 3rd phones were not much better with 2.1 from the factory. Rooting has cured all my issues and more.
