and if you think OPEN means that you can write your own applications: you could do that for any java-able device out there. if its my 4 year old cellphone or the housemanager which closes my parents windowshades at night. OPEN to me means i can choose whatever provider/carrier, software or hardware i like. of course every hardware needs itīs drivers to be able to be used by software...
for my pc i can choose if i like a intel or an amd cpu, an ati or a nvidia graphics card, there are dozens of ram manufacturers. then i choose if i want to run xp or vista or even ubuntu. and then, a totally diffrent desicion: i choose if i want cable- dsl- or whatever internet.
but if google want to do it like jobs...
so, nix fuer ungut

Well, your definition of Open isn't the same as the Alliance. You can take it to any GSM provider if you get it unlocked. I'm sure that will be available about a month after release.
As for companies like Sprint and Verizon, that's a while off. Until a standard is set for cell services, I doubt we see a phone that will cross all providers.
I think the hardware and software are better than the iPhone. The keyboard is nice, it sounds like the market won't have crazy restrictions like iPhone Apps, and the interface looks comparable to the iPhone.
It gives you the flash of the iPhone, Instinct, etc. for a decent price and it's much more customizable since the API's are provided for free.
