Hello anr311.
You don't mention what remedies you've tried for the browser force closes, so I'll give you the most common ones:
First, remove any task killers you may have running.
Then, go into the menu > settings > applications > manage applications and clear cache and data on the browser you're using,
then un-install the ones you're not using. Reboot and test your browser of choice.
If no joy, un-install the browser you like and re-install it, reboot and test.
Still force closing? I'd start completely over but with a different ROM. You say that you don't know what ROM you're on, so I can't give you specific help yet.
Please post back with how things are going, and perhaps with some more info about your device's operating system, etc.
If this turns out to be a ROM issue, I'll move the thread over to the Eris All Things Root forums where more ROM users will likely chime in with their help and experiences (lots of ROMs out there
