Check out the 1 click lag fix http://droid-den.com/phone-guides/phone-guide-how-to-root-the-samsung-galaxy-s-and-fix-lag, then watch as your galaxy runs rings around your gf's desire.

I'm in the opposite situation, my gf's galaxy s (with lag fix) runs rings around my rooted and overclocked desire!!! Arg!!
