My Ally is rooted. I had installed the 1.13 recovery with very little trouble. Then I discovered Clockworkmod and installed that recovery. When 1.2.2 was put up, I had one hell of a time trying to get it to install. I kept running into that "not enough available memory" error. Well, thought I'd try it on the device considering I wasn't getting any via adb. I moved the flash_image and recovery-RA_GNMTv1.2.2.img files onto my sdcard, loaded up terminal emulator on my phone, typed su at the $ prompt and got root. I then went through the commands for phones that already have root and, voila! I'm now rockin' drellisdee's custom recovery. Probably not the best way to do, but it worked for me. Hope this helps =)
