Default Help with settings on my new phone please..

Thought I should post this in here as I'm sure the problem isn't specific to my phone. Maybe it's a network issue. I just got a Samsung Galaxy Portal (i5700) which was unlocked from the 3 network and I'm using it on Virgin. I've entered all the Virgin settings but it still wont establish a data/3G connection. As soon as I open the browser it says cannot be displayed, even though I've changed the homepage to the virgin one. If I try to navigate to any other page I get the same error.

I thought maybe the Three network alter the settings on their phones to make it awkward to use on another network. Anyone got any ideas? If I can't get it working I'll have to return it, and I don't have long to do so.
