My primary question is: Are there different types of Micro USB cabes (i.e. charge only vs. data)? My original HTC cable was chewed to pieces by the family pet and I have since replaced it with what was advertised as a "data cable" that I purchased on eBay.
I have once successfully been able to get my PC (running Vista) to recognize my Evo as a disk drive but I can't remember if it was using the original cable or the replacement.
With the replacement, when I connect the phone to my PC, my PC makes the usual sound that it does when something has been plugged into a USB port. The curser spins for a split second as if it's doing something but nothing happens and I do not get the usual dialogue box.
I do not use HTC Sync.
I have already set the default connection type on the phone to "Disk Drive."
I do not get any icon in the phone's notification bar that I can tap on.
If someone knows the answer to the cable question, that will at least give me a place to start
After your phone is connected to the computer, go into my computer or computer depending on PC OS. You will see all your hard drives listed. You should see one that says Removable Disk. This is the SD card that you have connected to. You are then able to browse through there and see all the files on the SD card only. When you have the phone in drive mode this is what you will be able to do. Then you can copy files like music and images to the SD card.
Its possible that you set a default action in the OS to not do anything when you connect the phone. So if you are able to see the drive then it is working. Now if you do not see it then maybe the cable you are using will not work. Some are charge only and don't offer data transfers.
