Seeing your post I wanted to try a day without, so I did. My battery life was cut by a third without the ATK running. I used my phone 50% less than normal as well. So IMO and experience, I would say that at least having the auto end running in background will save a substantial amount of battery life. For me at least.

I do have a question for you though...
When you leave your applications to go to home screen or switch to a different app etc, what button do you press on your phone. Do you press the home button or do you use the back arrow.
It is my current understanding that if you use the back arrow the program closes and if you use the home button the program is left open.
