I would, besides...most other themes have the deodexing built in anyway, so you can be odexed going in. You only need to manually deodex if the theme you want requires it.

Have you uninstalled and redownloaded gmail from the
market? I saw your "downloaded directly from their site" comment, but have you tried it the way I and mygam suggested? Uninstall it first, find it in the market, download and let it install...it's been updated in the last week or 2 I believe.
