I wouldn't be so sure that they don't have the design for CDMA. Remember that Apple went to Verizon first before they got rejected and then landed with AT&T. Also, the iPhone has come out in Korea which uses CDMA. And considering how there are so many rumors that the iPhone will come out for Verizon next year, I'm sure that they've already made the CDMA iPhone long ago and have had it in testing since.
