Frankly, I think it will never get to the same refinement just because of what you said. It IS open source. As long as things are open source every manufacturer/carrier will have their own iteration of it, making the interfaces not as polished. However, if everyone used the Google standard (Google Experience I think??), maybe it could be come more polished. Think of it this way, jailbroken iPhones aren't polished because there are a million different things you can do with it.

What are you talking about? The iPhone has always had WiFi on it, and it has never been locked.
