Just as a follow up, I removed "Advanced Task Killer" all together and have had no more problems (at least for the last week)... GPS works great! I have not noticed a huge impact on battery life... but I am usually close to a charger so I am probably not a good gauge for this.
The GPS location on google maps with satellite view is one of my favorite bells and whistles.
