Can I just add the following:
When setting your message notification do so from:
Messages > Menu > Settings > Select Sound
And if you like wakening to a favourite tune you'll need to add the following folder
/sdcard/media/audio/alarms
while you have the Hero mounted on your PC
Your ringtone should now show up when selecting Alarm Sound.
