" I didn't have any other phone to call them from, and I didn't know if I could do it from a non-activated phone. I assumed not.
I did bring it in to the verizon store though. The two girls there were very nice, but weren't aware of the issue or how to fix it. I was told how to go about getting a replacement. I mentioned I had found this solution online though, so they gave it a shot. It fixed the problem. Lost all my phone storage data and contacts of course, but it works now so that's good enough for me.

Ok...just FYI, you can (and think you have to, not sure) make that call from the phone your activating.
Good to hear you got it fixed without having a brick for a phone for a day and a half.
