Why should there be a difference in cost just because a computer is utilizing your 5GB alloted bandwidth instead of your smartphone? They are charging almost the cost of the phone data plan with no increase in bandwidth just so you can utilize that same bandwidth you already payed for on another device.
It's US Cellulars service though so they can do whatever the heck they want to, we just have to deal with it.

Not really. When I took my phone in for the 2.2 update, I asked the tech about it. He didn't sound sure of himself, or didn't want to commit to anything, but he told me if I did a little bit of tethering w/o the plan it should be ok. So at least I have someone to blame
I may or may not have tried it with the wifeys Nook. If I did, I may or may not have seen the disclaimer that popped about about having the proper plan. There was no sign in or password, and it worked great.
