I am assuming your talking about HTC Sync. As far as I know, go ahead and do it.

How do you flash a new ROM? Here is a very long tutorial that I did via PM for another member:
"Just curious, what ROM are we installing here? I could be considered a "drifter" when it comes to ROMs. I go through them and try 'em out.

OK, this is what we are going to do (In this order):

First, lets make sure that ClockworkMod Recovery works for you. Open up ROM Manager, and choose "Reboot into Recovery". It will go into recovery and hopefully CWM will show up. If not, you will need to find the fix over at xda-developers.

Assuming that its working, step two: Get the ROM that you are wanting to flash. Download the file.

Then, put the phone on USB Debugging Mode and set it to "Disk Drive". Once AutoPlay comes up, choose to view the files of your SD Card.

Open up your Downloads folder on your computer, find the zip file that the ROM is in, and drag it over to the ROOT of your SD card. That means just drag it onto the card. DO NOT put it in any of the folders already there please!!!

Set the phone back to "Charge Only". And open up ROM Manager. From the app, choose "Install ROM from SD Card". Then, find the zip file that contains the ROM that you downloaded, and click on it. Once you do it should ask you if you want to backup the current ROM and if you want to wipe the data that is currently on the device. If you haven't already done a backup of the ROM, click on it. AND for future ROM attempts, ALWAYS choose to wipe the data already on your device.

It will then take you into ClockworkMod Recovery. From here it should automatically do the backup of the current ROM and then install the new ROM. This will take a while, so don't freak if it looks like nothing is happening. Once the ROM has been installed it will let you know. If it doesn't automatically reboot the phone with the new ROM, use the volume rocker to "Go Back", or if it has the option to reboot on that screen, do it. If you had to "Go Back", once there choose to "reboot system now".

That's it! You just installed a new ROM!

Also, if you run into a ROM that isn't functioning correctly, for example: the ROM could reboot over and over with no end, when you get the chance, unlock the phone and power it down. FAST, or it will reboot again. Now that your powered down go into HBOOT and select Recovery. It will take you into CWM again. If you have already used a different ROM that is still on your SD Card, choose to install the zip file. Once it is back, assuming that you have a backup of the ROM that you just re-installed, go back into ROM Manager and restore the backup that goes with that ROM. Or else you could find yourself back where you were before, rebooting and rebooting. This is speaking from personal experience. The ROM that was rebooting was called "[ROM] MIUI GINGERBREAD 1.3.25 - Lockscreen Lunacy". It is at xda so stay away from it.

If you need anything else, please let me know!

Happy ROMing,

Matt"

And you can find different ROMs right HERE. You will know if it is a ROM if the title of the thread starts with [ROM], or has [ROM] somewhere in the title.
