I still think my explanation is less confusing.

6÷2(1+2)

Let's just add brackets to "clarify". I am not changing any operator or priority by doing so.

(6)÷(2)(1+2)

And since a division is in fact a multiplication of the inverse:

(6)(1/2)(1+2)

And that's 9 no matter the order of the terms.
