From what it sounds like, it could have been two potential problems.
The first is that you flashed it with your phone plugged in, whether that be with an AC outlet or USB. On some of the threads, it warns that if you flash with it plugged in, it will show no service for a couple of charge cycles.
The second reason would be that the modem didn't take. It could have been a bad download or the modem could have just not liked your phone. If you're going to try it again, I'd suggest just deleting the 6.4 file you have currently and re-downloading it.
