There was a post on here where a guy lost all of his contacts from his Gmail and then when the phone sync'd he said that they were then wiped from his phone ....
That is why I would backup my contacts ... prior to changing email accounts ...
maybe overcautious ... But he lost something like 1500 contacts ...
