I really really like my EVO, and I became eligible for "update" as of June 1st, but have no qualms with the EVO currently. If you plan on rooting, it makes it that much better of an experience. The EVO lets me do everything that I need, and I think you definitely wouldn't do any wrong getting it, especially as a second phone...my .02.
