Okay so first of all, the device can be on a PAM plan, second of all...not on the consumer side (even if you place on a talk plan...the system will not allow the device/plan to work)....PDAnet works, you have to remove HTC sync for it to work it just wont access HTTPS sites.

I have a question though, I had a Win Mo device and had the PAM plan on my account. Easily able to connect to the web through internet sharing. Upgraded to the Hero and still have the PAM plan but am unable to tether...installed HTC sync...no modem driver...upgrading to latest HTC sync sw...still unable to tether, still not detected as a modem. For some reason Win 7 will not recognize the device as a modem even when I placed in internet sharing. At my wits end as far as how to get this to work. Does anyone know of any driver that can be installed, I thought I read somewhere it is operational in Europe.

Side note...rooted my device would this prevent the computer from seeing the device as a modem...I doubt it would but I am ignorant when it comes to Linux!
