First of all, it takes them about 10 minutes to do it for you. I don't know why they had you do it yourself, unless the place you went had no techs . When you take your battery out, your phone should be "on" for an effective boot.
Prior to the patch release my phone had a safe mode issue, and they had to wipe my phone. I was having major glitch issues prior to the patch. Things are good since. I would recommend going back to the store for help. That's what I would do.
