Default updated to gingerbread two days ago - my thoughts...

the OTA update was fine...a ~100MB file downloaded via wifi took a few minutes, i tapped OK a couple times, and it was basically done. one of my shortcuts was gone (manage applications or running applications, i can't remember), but everything else seemed fine.

i went to work yesterday and the phone lost its data (3G) signal. i'd toggle it on/off but i'd get "error code 67 - could not connect to data network." when i got home, i got on sprint chat, and the CSR made me update a bunch of things (hands free activation, PRL, etc. via ##3282#). she claimed that it was necessary after going from froyo to gingerbread. i asked her if the problem would come up again and she said no, but who really knows, right?

the effects seem to be a bit smoother, and the phone is more responsive, but obviously nowhere near a cyano ROM's speed. it seems like 8 out of 10 people say that gingerbread is worth it, so we'll see.

i don't really have much data in terms of battery life, but i will post an update next week. i couldn't find the netflix app before (did it get pulled from marketplace?) but at least 2 other apps broke when going to 2.3 (shoot 'em - the screenshot app being a big one that i miss). using the phone for about 90 minutes last night for mostly web surfing seemed to use up about the same amount of battery as it has the previous week.
