I'm a long-time follower of this thread, hi!
#include appreciative comment about all the work Mike (et al.) have done.
I received my Magic in the mail very quickly, and just a day or two before the E911 problem reared its head.
I am getting used to the Magic's soft keyboard, but my wife hates it. (although she only gave it 5 minutes)
Last night I updated my Magic and my wife's Dream and my old Dream. All went quite well in the end. The PDF instructions weren't 100% accurate, but they were close enough to get the job done.
One quirk: The freshly installed HTC Sync caused my Windows XP machine to spontaneously reboot / BSOD. That was exciting. It seems to happen if I fiddle with the HTC Sync UI, but just using the USB link to the phone(s) seems to work fine.
Post firmware update...
The Dream doesn't appear to have changed, visibly.
There are many improved features I really like on the Magic:
- The new keyboard (long-hold for symbols!)
- The 7 (up from 3) desktop screens.
- The new widgets.
- The pinch and swipe interface in the Album.
- The camera/video toggle.
- It's significantly "snappier" than my Dream's sluggish interface.
- A lot of little things.
Mike - I agree that the Rogers move to "force" us to do the upgrade by limiting our data connectivity is scary on several levels. Of course, had they not done that what percentage of people wouldn't have bothered with the upgrade? It must have been a tricky choice for them. Personally, I don't like the precedent it sets.
