Magic update fail
Just wanted to share my 'story' of the update.
So at first I called the hotline as I have win7 x64. And he said that by the morning there should be a download to apply onto the SD card for me. That never happened. So I explored win7 HTC Sync options.
I don't know what those people who've got it to work have done, but mine would NEVER connect. [I tried everything, and I'm pretty tech savvy].
So I was ready to call tech support again when I remembered I have a netbook with XP. I gave it a shot with that computer. Things seemed to be rolling along nicely however partway through a big error screen came up and the phone froze. CRAP.
I call tech support. Immediately the CSR is promising to get me a new phone WITH THE UPDATE in 3-5 days, but their computers are down, and if he could get me the IMEI he'll get me a confirmation number. I express my dissatisfaction over the inconvenience. This is when he went from sympathetically helpful to indignantly defendant. He said it wasn't their fault and that HTC is the entity supplying the 'warranty' and there'd be no way I'd be given a BlackBerry (never asked for one at all!).
Anyways, I hung, realizing I didn't want to get into this at the moment and he wouldn't have the authority to handle me.
I gave my phone another shot, and as luck would have it, the update continued on and now I have SENSE UI.
[note -- i haven't seen anybody else say this, but we do have multitouch in the gallery AND in the standard browser -- this is a pretty slick ui with good integration with fbook into your contacts, etc... and hasn't slowed down on me yet since it started running]
Now, I should be expecting my 'replacement' in 3-5 business days (i have a confirmation #), should I be expecting to send my 'defective unit' back? Data's working fine for me now... My wife could always use a 'fun phone' (as she calls it).
