Hi,

I'm thinking of moving over to 3 for a new pay monthly contact with the nexus.

I know it depends on location, but generally speaking, what's the 3g coverage like?

I use Three mobile broadband in London and find the coverage pretty good.

Have had some fantastic speeds at times but sometimes it's not so good.

In general though it's decent.

I'm sitting in my front room which has poor reception and am getting 1.24Mb sec download speeds and 1.72Mb sec upload speeds.

Have had 10Mb sec downloads before now when located in the right place.

Really just depends what area your in it can be hit and miss but nothing wrong with 3 at all

I live in a slightly more rural area (west Cumbriaa) and I'm totally happy with the coverage I get in town. It's not so hot when I get further out into the country, my partner is on Vodafone and tends to get better reception. As for speed, I regularly revert back to the mobile network to watch iPlayer while the home network is being used by everyone else. I'm on their One Plan which gives my unlimited data, plus tethering which means I can use my phone as a wifi hotspot for our family while we are away.

Three have one of the best 3G networks in the UK. Im typing this on three mobile broadband. I get perfect reception - better transfer rates than my home broadband provider.

Three have a coverage map for both phone coverage and mobile broadband. You might want to check that to see what coverage is like in your area.

The BBC did an exercise last year getting android users to load an app which reported what signal they had and which network they were on.
The results can be seen here <BBC News - UK mobile coverage map> and it is useful because you can switch between networks and see how the coverage differs.

I used it before deciding to switch from Vodafone to Three and have never regretted it (been with 3 for almost 6 months)!

3's coverage is pretty crap tbh especially for voice calls and texts. On par with T-Mobile and similar. 3G is a little better as is 3.5G but sometimes their service is still very slow and you don't get good speeds up or down. In terms of value for money they are okay. I do think their "all you can eat data" products are a bit misleading because it is not all you can eat when the buffet isn't ready and cooked and you are being spoon fed very slowly. Value on voice calls is poor. Freebies are good you get loads of them like texts and data. All in my experience of course.
