Kies is okay for installing the official Samsung upgrades (when they appear!) if that is all you want to do, but there are some great custom ROMs out there, developed by the
XDA Developers, which can't be downloaded via Kies. So although this may seem a 'complex' way of upgrading it has its purpose and is worth learning.
