Ya, just started happening to my Droid over the weekend. Sync icon never goes away. The only temp fix is to disable auto-sync in settings. If not, my battery lasts about 3-5 hours.
As far as suggestions for deleting the cache goes, are you folks referring to the "Clear search history" option under settings for my Gmail accounts? I really don't want to do a hard reset.
