Default How to avoid ATT detecting my tethering?

I just renewed a 2 year contract with ATT. I excited to root my phone and have internet where ever I go for $25/month. $25 is a little steep, but I'm willing to pay that.

A few days ago I received a nastygram from ATT saying "Did you know a tethering plan is required?" My understanding is that I will be auto-billed for the tethering plan if I don't contact them.

First off, what should I say when I call them?

Secondly, I've been reading for the past two hours about how to stay under ATT's radar. At first, my intention was to only use the tethering to play online poker (less than 10MB/hour.) But I eventually got greedy and used it for youtube, internet radio, etc.

All I have done with my phone is root it then mess around with a value in PostSQL. What can I do to make sure I do not get detected by ATT in the future.

I appreciate your input.
