Make sure you follow the guides on how to install SPRecovery and backup with a nandroid backup first
the guides really should be in this order:
1) how to root
2) how to download and install the SDK (for adb)
3) how to install SPRecovery
4) how to make a backup
5) how to install a ROM
6) (optional) how to install busybox
