Fragmentation is inevitable...Unless you release one device and they ALL have the same specs it's probably not feasible that all of the phones that CAN run Android CAN run the latest and greatest.

Now don't get me wrong I believe the Droid can run N1s, but some of the N1 and Droid features would crunch the Eris...Fragmentation due to that isn't a bad thing, it's preserving customer experience. There are plenty of Eris owners out there who are happy, got what they wanted and paid 1-200 less than Droid owners. These three phones really are the first mainstream foray for the CDMA world which has been crippled by Windows Mobile for years.

With Windows 7 Phone incoming I think we might all be surprised what Android does to stay competitive and also stick it to Apple. Remember a few years back when you bought a phone and that was pretty much it? No upgrades, no feature updates. Maybe a firmware flash or two for the entire 3-5 year life of a model...With new phones every few months now we're getting greedy with the grass is always greener mentality.

This may very well be manufacturer or carrier decisions and not Google's fault at all.
