rubbishy - I get that message occasionally using the market app too - and that's when not even using WiFi. The Orange 3G service is umm, "a bit choppy at times".
Your router will have a limit on connections although it may not be that obvious or well published but in any event, that as a possible cause of a problem is easily tested: have nothing else active on your LAN when you're trying to use WiFi with your phone.
Personally, I've seen no such problem with my Sensation using my WiFi.
