Hmm, interesting points, but ultimately uninformed. You should check out the work going on at xda devs... They've cracked the bootloader, and begun getting both cm9 AND Ubuntu on these tablets. For that matter, this thing has been rooted and is working great.

I just caved and bought one at B&N. Its rooted and running a custom launcher. Ive got the full android market at my disposal, and any apps that dont work, i simply sideload (like a boss). I'm not good with "patience" when it comes to gadgets.

Oh, and if you are really considering tossing your Nook away, shoot me a pm. Id buy it.
