Don't feel that way. I don't really understand it, but I had a similar experience on another PC (but not Windows 7, and not with a smartphone), where the response I got plugging into the front USB ports was different than the rear. As if, they are all USB, but not using the same driver, or are on different boards in the system. Could be just crazy speculation. If the ports on the back are hard to get to you might want to add a USB extension to reach to the front. In any event, glad you got it working.
