hey folks
wanted to emphasize the importance of updating your radio before installing the new spl.
at the same time here's a note from a thread in xda-developers:

If this is the case do not freak out it's normal and your phone is not bricked, but this is why having a sd card reader is important.

this is to say... if you find yourself stuck at the g1 screen try rebooting (send + menu + end/power) and either accessing your recovery screen (home + end/power), or your bootloader (camera + end/power). If you can access either of these, you're still in good shape.
