I like the fact that it's open. I made the decision to go with an Android phone because of that fact. It was open and I wanted to get into development for it and didn't want to have to jump through hoops for the iPhone.
Android is still new and catching on and like Scott said above, as more apps get out there and it picks up steam the quality will go up. It pains me to cruise through the iTunes store (for my sons touch) and see some of the apps and games available while the Android phones are still getting started. And it pains me even more when my iPhone friends laugh at my phone since I can't even buy apps from the Android market yet...but I'm holding on with hope
