Default Broken Volume Rocker - Advice Please

Hello - new to the forums and could use some advice about my Thunderbolt.

Sadly dropped the phone and discovered the volume up rocker is broken. The up rocker is pushed in and will not respond when pressed or spring back to normal position.

I upgraded to the phone only a few weeks ago on March 4th. What -if any- are my options with VZW. I have insurance if needed, but would prefer not to pay the deductible for a new phone. While there is no major damage, there are a few tiny scratches on the volume rockers. Any shot at have the phone replaced for free?

If not, how difficult of a fix is this? A few youtube videos out there make it look relatively simple to remove the "void" sticker and take the phone apart. Haven't gone that route yet, but thought it would be helpful to ask before taking it apart.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
