You can cancel insurance any time. On a new phone that would cost a couple hundred bucks to replace I want it. I think its $80 to replace a lost, stolen, broken phone. The warranty won't cover damage like drops.
I always keep insurance on a newer smart phone.
If you have a older phone that is out of contract and due for a upgrade then it's not worth it.
