Listen, I am going to say this with the most sincere honesty and respect for you. Get an iPhone instead. Galaxy nexus is just too much device for what you are expecting. The massive screen and LTE radio on this device just eat batteries, literally. The drop in battery you are seeing
with screen on are normal for this device. I have a baggie of 11 sim cards I have been through from getting stuck on 52686 which cause extreme heat and battery drop where I live. I also have 3 standard batteries, one extended battery, 2 desktop chargers, 2 wall chargers and a car charger. You pay the price for having that beautiful massive AMOLED screen among other cutting edge features.
The reception on this device is just flat out lousy and when it can't get a good signal it "ghost dials" *22899 to try to fix its reception. Bummer, but it is what it is. The kind of usage you are expecting is the exact same usage I get on my iPhone4 (I switch between the iPhone and Gnex weekly). I can wake up and check all my emails, messages, play words with friends, draw something.....a good solid hour of screen on time and use and only drop to 97% battery. Then I can get to work and stream Pandora in our 25,000 square foot poly-steel shop/office space (starving for signal) until lunch (4-5 hours) and only drop to 72-75% battery by lunch. The exact same usage on my Gnex and i'm usually hitting 30-35% by lunch on most days.
So my sincere advice to you is to either get a couple of spare batteries and stop obsessing over battery use, if I only had one battery to make it through the day on my Gnex I would seriously
hate this device. Or get something with a smaller screen and better reception. iPhone 4/S is a great device if you don't mind loosing 90% of your freedom.
Here is the desktop charger I purchased. I got two of them, one for desk at work and one for my nightstand at home. They are only $30 with free shipping and come with another stock battery. They quite literally changed my outlook on this device.
