You dont need to root your phone achieve what you want, my GNote is stock, has super battery life, hitting 2 days with heavy use, UI is smooth and stable. Root can and does bring benefits, if you have to ask if you need it, you likely dont.

Two of my colleagues and myself were comparing our GNote`s and all three were significantly different, in look feel and battery life, all three phones are the same stock OS, same country of purchase, no root, only difference what was loaded on the phones and the setup. I run all animation, live wallpaper and had the highest usage of the three yet I also have the longest run time on battery, so you see it`s all in the set up of the phone, monitoring what apps are power hungry, smart use of WiFi, network data, screen brightness, screen timeout,

My iPhone 4 would just about got through the day, so for me the GNote is a big improvement and my usage has increased.
