Idk whether to blame Sprint or HTC, because i know damn well HTC is adding their HTC bullshit to the phone to try and make it more superior than the original Android home screen. Every company has to add a part of them to a phone... Its annoying me.

Guess what, NO phone has had a 2.1 update. Not a single one.
The jump from 1.5 to 1.6+ is an extremely big jump. Everything changes in the way the ROM is organized and runs.
We'll get the update when we get it, and it wouldn't surprise me if the Hero gets it before any other phone on the market.
Don't have the patience to wait? Go get a nexus 1, because that's the only phone on 2.1 (officially). Or, root the damn phone and put one of the 2.1 ROM's on. They're extremely fast, and basically only missing Visual Voice Mail (apparently Google Voice works just as well, I don't bother using it)
And most of the apps that are 1.6+ (i.e. goggles, gesture search, and crap like that) are just gimmicks. They're fun for a few minutes, then you realize that it's faster to accomplish the same task in a different manner.
