I just remembered what I suggested to someone a while back who had the same problem.
I suggested using a very simple ringtone (which would probably mean a custom one you make, not something the phone has) like woodblock (ok, the phone has this one as a notification sound) or downloading the Mosquito ringtone and having you volume all the way up. If you don't know what the Mosquito ringtone is, Google it and you'll find some links to it too.
A friend of mine uses it in classes and it works wonders for him. It's his message notification, though, so it's useful for texting.
Use Mosquito in conjunction with the app that alters your alerts depending on your location (yes, it really does exist) and that should prevent you from having dogs attack you every time your phone rings off the set.
