They seem to have dropped the USB drive support from ICS. Apparently, ICS is more "consumerfied", meaning more supportive of DRM and limiting how the device can be used. There are, of course, some efforts to add block device support back, but until then, over the network might be easiest.

I use Dropbox with either Dropsync (to synchronize folders) or ES File Explorer (for individual files) across multiple devices, but since you're using Linux, you might also find SSHDroid simpler. It turns your SGT into a SFTP server so you can transfer files directly to it (e.g. mount it with sftp://root@addressort) and copy files directly to it from your desktop. This avoids shoving everything upstream to Dropbox, then back down, and should be much faster.
