Most point and shoots don't have aperture priority, it was worth a shot though. If you don't mind sacrificing some megapixels, turn the picture size down a bit. A 5-8MP photo will easily make a high quality 8x10. I have a 20x30 print I shot at 8MP. If you're shooting in that 5-8 range, the camera takes less time to process and write it to storage.
Also, if you'd get rid of that crappy Nikon and get a real camera (Canon) it might work better too. Just kidding of course.
