The foolproof guide should work... Might possibly be a driver issue stopping you from doing it. Try this:
Uninstall LG drivers (Add remove programs)
Reinstall LG drivers from LG update tool or use this link as a walkthrough:

Once that's done, redownload the v20B KDZ file here:
http://csmg.lgmobile.com/swdata/WEBSW/LGC710H/ATLSBK/V20b_00/V20B_00.kdz
Download the KDZ Update tool from the foolproof thread
Turn off your phone, remove battery for 30 seconds
Put battery back, but don't power on phone
Slide out keyboard, hold 1, plug in USB cable in your phone
It'll fall to emergency mode... Then in the KDZ update tool, select 3GCT and EMERGENCY (Or if that doesn't work, EMERGENCY_CS), select KDZ file and then flash.
If that still doesn't work for you... Well... I don't know.
