I usually only like big dogs too, the my dad passed away and I inherited his little chihuahua /jack russel, an increase fell in love with him. The funny thing was, I always hated this dog, and thought he was a pain in the a**, but now I treat him as if he were my child. My boyfriend hates him just like I used to.
